In less than a month, I go off to my own flat to explore the world! Being disabled, differences can worry me, but I am ready for this...
Luckily for me I am not going alone! I am bringing my amazing partner with me, to live in our very first home together! He looks after me well, and makes me laugh on tough days! Everyone needs someone like him in their life <3
Anyway, enough of the cringy love!... back to the blog!
Why am I moving?
Excitingly... I am off to UNI! :D
Many people doubt my ability as an Autistic person with physical health problems, but I was actually given an unconditional offer to study at my FIRST CHOICE UNI! I was so so so happy and very privileged to be given the opportunity to study there! Soon I will be studying criminology BSc at The University of Leicester! And unfortunately my home in Northamptonshire is a little bit too far for me to commute every day. So we decided the best option was to rent out our own little flat!
What is our flat like?
Being a student money is tight tight tight! It is a well known fact that noodles are the food of students (they are so cheap!) So our flat is not huge! In fact it is a studio flat, which means everything (besides the bathroom) is all in one room! This is perfect for us and has meant we can afford the best facilities for our budget! Luckily we are only paying just over £600 a month for our new-built flat, all inclusive with bills and wifi! There was no added charge for my disability :)
Does it suit my needs?
Yes! Luckily our flat has a wet room which we will show you when we move! This means I have all the space I need :) We are also on the first floor, and have brilliant accesibility to the hospital, Leciester city centre and my University. :D
Where can I find a flat for my own needs?
Being disabled, a move can be very stressful! You have to spend ages finding the right place, and my biggest recommendation is researching loads. You will need to google and google and google some more until you find suitable places. Don't be afraid to ask questions! And ALWAYS go for a viewing!
When do I move?
Me and Callum move into our flat in just 25 days! On September the 15th, the day before my 19th birthday :o I am going to keep you constantly updated on how long until our move and everything we have gotten in preparation! This will hopefully help anyone moving to uni to ensure they remember everything they need! <3
Stay tuned for the next move blog which is going to be "What we are taking to our flat!" for a checklist on necessities that you need to bring <3
